POSITION:
ACCOUNTANT
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the School Business Administrator and Assistant School Business Administrator, performs the routine accounting work involved in preparing financial statements and in maintaining an accounting system; does related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two to Five years experience in the accounting field, preferably in a school setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Required U.S. Citizenship or alien status, and required criminal history background check.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be determined appropriate and acceptable by the Board of Education.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assumes proper recording of receipts and expenditures in all funds for the district.
- Reviews all bank account reconciliations.
- Periodically reviews student activities accounts and food service accounts for accuracy.
- Prepares monthly closing entries and financial statements for all funds.
- Maintains general fixed asset account group.
- Prepares and distributes monthly budget reports.
- Provides technical assistance to those charges with the keeping of financial records.
- Submits claims for refunds on sales and fuel taxes.
- Performs periodic internal audit tasks on all funds.
- Prepares tuition contracts, tuition adjustment and billing to sending districts.
- Assist in the preparation of all payroll reports for accuracy and timely completion.
- Prepares and maintains analysis of health benefit payments and receivable.
- Is responsible for ensuring that the district complies with all record retention requirements, ensuring a proper audit trail.
- Assists in budget preparation.
- Assists in year-end close of accounting system.
- Assists in the preparation of the CAFR, and performs routine work involved in preparing for the annual audit.
- Assists in grant expenditure reporting and draw downs.
- Checks the preparation of annual tax withholding statements for accuracy.
- Checks and certifies payroll information for completeness and accuracy.
- Reconciliation of Quarterly and Yearly Social Security Reports for distribution to State and Federal Government
- Other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and the School Business Administrator and Assistant School Business Administrator.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
12 Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
