POSITION:
Bus Aide
QUALIFICATIONS:
- As determined by New Jersey state certification requirements and the Bridgeton Board of Education
- Required criminal history background check and proof of
U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
REPORTS TO:
Transportation Coordinator
JOB GOAL:
The special education bus aide is a very important member of the transportation team. With the bus driver, the bus aide shares the responsibility for safely transporting passengers to and from school-related activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Shall respond to the bus driver as his/her immediate supervisor.
- Shall assist in maintaining order on the bus by enforcing the Board policies and the Rules of the bus.
- Shall give warnings to any student that is "out of order".
- Shall be on the bus route at all times during the bus route, except as authorized by the Transportation Department.
- Shall occupy a seat on the bus where student riders can easily be assisted.
- Shall ensure that required protective safety devices are in use and are fastened properly. When the bus aide is not available, this shall be the responsibility of the bus driver.
- Shall assist such students on and off the bus at school, at designated bus stops, and otherwise when it is necessary for their safe entrance and exit from the bus.
- Shall assist the driver with post-trip inspection procedures, checking especially for passengers, special equipment, medication, etc. that may have been left on board the bus.
- Shall assist with the safety, welfare and orderly conduct of passengers while on the bus.
- Shall dress appropriately for the position.
- Shall possess good moral character.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
1O Months. Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
